Literature Text

She likes to wear pink, but everything about her
Is always blue, and sometimes black
The world would be less weird without her
But we'd miss those sparkling, piercing cracks

No Maria, but she's pretty and witty and bright
And I pity any man who earns her ire tonight

Men will crumble in her practiced hands
And she'll complain about the dust
She leaves her marks on every man
A need for love, a tendency toward lust

Gloria's fish has learned to use a bike
Lock it up or lose it, it's all the same to a dyke

Platonic love can't exist for a girl
Who is cursed by the same things with which she is blessed
Who tries to support the weight of the world
Not on her shoulders, but on her breasts

Tyger, tyger, burning blind
in The Wasteland of her mind
Tyger, tyger, burning blind
No one seems to see her mind

Why can't cute young women have platonic male friends? When you finally meet someone you can talk to, but don't want to have sex with, you get called a tease.

The first couplet is a parody of a song lyric from "West Side Story." If you can't figure it out from there, I can't help you.
The second couplet is a reference to Gloria Steinem's famous quote, "a woman without a man is like a fish without a bicycle."

The last line has a double meaning: the word "mind" can be a noun or a verb.

I laughed out loud when I read the title, but I really like the poem. Also, lovely little intentional misquote of Blake's poem "Tyger Tyger" from his anthology "Songs of Experience."

Minor discrepency: if you want the quote to be more accurate, 'Tiger' needs to be spelled with a Y. Other than that little bit of criticism, I like it a lot.

Great writing.
